[Users-list] GRID error

Thanks very much for the explanation and clarification. I have
everything in the same folder (Grid, Greater, licence file, structure
files etc), but I'm still getting the error message "Couldn't start
Greater". This is only if I go via the Start menu or click on
start_greater.exe. I do get Greater to start if I click directly on
greater.exe, but then it gives the "GRID error" message after
computation.

I'm sure it's some small thing that I'm doing wrong, but what?? Sorry to
be a nuisance!

Ok. This is a critical point in the procedure (which is Windows
specific, since the dialog does not appear on Linux).

To clarify things once for all, the dialog "Where do you want to run
Grid" is a workaround we had to put in place to adapt the Windows
version to the Grid model of operations: basically, Greater assumes to
find structures and other support files in the current working
directory.

In Windows the concept of "current working directory" is not used, so
every program is allowed to browse the filesystem and load data from any
location: unfortunately this is simply not possible for Greater.

So we have to ask the user "Where do you want to run Grid", which could
be rephrased as "Please choose the directory where you will open your
files"; then, _all_ file open operations (for example, "Add single
target") are supposed to show a dialog _already_ positioned in the
working directory, so you can just pick the target structure _without_
browsing the filesystem.

I believe the problem will be addressed in the next version of the GRID
package.
