[Users-list] Where do I paste the license key?

The error message you quoted does not complain about any problem related 
to the license line but to the file containing it!

The problem is probably due its name: please verify that the file is 
still named license and not license.txt or license.doc or what else, any 
extension appended by your editor makes the file useless.
The position within the file "license" where you copied the activated 
line does not have influence, apart from the fact that it has not to 
begin with symbol "#"
